September comes with several timetables
Your September on the Costa del Sol depends on several bodies' published schedules, down to which afternoon you can use a town-hall counter. There is no single date for getting the place back.
Yesterday we read the visitors' extended season. The residents' calendar has several authors: councils, education officials, health services and, for covered employees, the employer who owes them a disconnection policy.
Our read is that the Costa is growing up in an unglamorous, useful way.
The counter has its own hours
Fuengirola town hall's standing page publishes ordinary counter hours of 09:00 to 14:00 from 16 September, replacing the summer 13:30 finish.
Marbella's standing schedule keeps summer hours through Tuesday 22 September. Mornings remain 09:00 to 14:00; Tuesday and Thursday afternoons run 17:00 to 19:00, extending to 16:30 to 19:30 from 23 September. The first longer afternoon is Thursday 24 September.
Spain's general state administration and Andalucía's regional government had summer staff regimes through 15 September. State staff with children under 12 or dependants can retain theirs through 30 September. These are staff rules; Andalucía's Málaga registry at Avenida de la Aurora 47 publishes 09:00 to 14:00 all year.

Our 10 September issue covered the Spanish-curriculum school starts. Foreign-curriculum schools follow their own calendars.
Málaga's education delegation has official language schools and higher arts starting classes on Monday 21 September. Language-school admissions preceded that date.
Benalmádena's council courses and music and dance school start from 21 September, according to each enrolment.
The clinics prevent a general all-clear
The doctors' union reported in July, via La Opinión de Málaga, afternoon closures at Fuengirola Oeste through 20 September and Los Pacos through 27 September.
Afternoon services at Los Boliches and Torrequebrada were due back after 13 September. Those are reported plans; we have no reopening confirmation. Ring your centre before an afternoon visit.
Andalucía's health service forecast 85.7% of hospital beds and 75.9% of operating theatres available across the region for July to September. Its separate primary-care reorganisation runs from 29 June to 4 October.
The national strike committee announced on 11 September an indefinite national doctors' strike for Wednesday 28 October, subject to later decisions. Our 24 August account of the strike arrangements and waiting-list guarantees covers the machinery.

August correspondence still counts
In July, we wrote that "anything needing a stamp turns out to need it in September". That was too broad.
Our 5 August issue covered administrative deadlines and tax notification courtesy days. Administrative and tax deadlines normally continued through August.
Judicial time limits often paused, with urgent proceedings and jurisdiction-specific exceptions; many labour claims continued. For a letter waiting after summer, its effective service date and applicable procedure determine the answer. "It was August" does very little paperwork.
The policy you can ask to see
If Spanish labour law covers your employment, send the request below in writing to whoever handles your contract. If your household arranges local errands around your overseas calls, the employer's rules belong beside the council's hours.
Article 88 of Spain's Organic Law 3/2018 gives workers and public employees the right to digital disconnection outside working time. After hearing staff representatives, employers must draw up an internal policy covering all staff, including management, with training on reasonable use of digital tools.
The right covers employees under Spanish labour law. Genuine freelancers and independent contractors do not hold it; invoicing alone does not settle employment status.
For an overseas employer, it depends on which law governs your contract. Habitually working from Spain can preserve mandatory Spanish protections even under a foreign-law contract. The employer's foreign address does not settle it either.

The meeting moves before the client does
Spain and the UK put their clocks back on Sunday 25 October; the United States and Toronto follow on Sunday 1 November.
For Monday 26 to Friday 30 October, Málaga is five hours ahead of New York and Toronto, six ahead of Chicago and eight ahead of Los Angeles. A 09:00 Eastern call lands here at 14:00 instead of 15:00. London stays one hour behind Málaga.
On PVPC, the regulated electricity tariff, the dearest hour fell between 20:00 and 22:00 Málaga time on the days we checked this week. A US-facing evening call can overlap it. Wednesday's electricity issue explains the hourly pattern; appliances running alongside the call may be movable.
If the missing piece is a desk
In May we printed hot desks at €180 to €250 a month. That band still exists. The cheaper entry options below widen the picture.
Public options have conditions. Andalucía's Puntos Vuela centres are free and bookable with a login, with seven in Málaga city, plus Torremolinos Norte and Manilva. There are none in Marbella, Fuengirola or Estepona. Palma Palmilla's published weekday hours end at 15:00.
Marbella's municipal business incubator allocates free coworking authorisations by score. These require admission.
Grow Working, Carril de la Cordobesa 29, Málaga, lists a weekday hot desk at €80 a month plus IVA — VAT. These are published offers, with availability still to establish.

The bottom line
Our read is that the Costa's grown-up bargain asks something of both sides. Residents have to check which timetable applies. Employers covered by Spanish law have to explain how they protect time outside work.
